The sweet, slightly spicy scent of clove cigarettes or Davidoff's Gold is truly alluring, and evokes utterly anachronistic 1920s images in me. The little rituals, with which the smoking act is surrounded, form an elaborate material culture almost of its own - an artistic practice in itself. And where there is aesthetic comtemplation, there tend to be ethical nuances to that aesthetic. We yearn certain ethical forms or suggestions through our admiration of particular aesthetics. As any material surface, cigarettes are no simple symbol: they are a platform for a variety of beliefs and sensations, for both smokers and non-smokers. I think that also Jarmusch makes this point rather forcefully. :)Scribe of Salmacishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17032158602548865159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3914393314214652739.post-6410688934345650842011-06-21T20:12:36.980+03:002011-06-21T20:12:36.980+03:00Smoking is essential a status quo. Smokers strongly believe in their smoking reason, as if they smoked since they were born, but deny to themselves the unpleasent feeling that experienced when sucked from the first cigarette. Non-smokers strongly believe in the opposite. The truth is that neither one nor the other are right or wrong, the only fault is of the society, and of the 'smoking industry', which bring people to this division.

However, you do well, not smoking (and watching Jarmusch's movies).

AlessandroAlessandrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11098594125036110762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3914393314214652739.post-12811727704803280332011-05-27T14:39:21.184+03:002011-05-27T14:39:21.184+03:00In poetry it doesn't matter, which star shines...In poetry it doesn't matter, which star shines and for whom.
